People Profiles
The Scenario
At MITRE, connecting with colleagues and leveraging expertise from across the company was essential to our business and value. People Profiles was a key part of this, integrating everything you might want to know about an employee: contact details, administrative information, skills, professional experience ('Tech Stature'), recent deliverables, and much more. As one of our most heavily used applications, it constantly needed to evolve with changing needs. Recent updates I designed included:
- Adding workspace reservations and your usual in-office schedule to help hybrid employees to connect in person
- Partnering with our HR team to migrate professional experience data from our local database to Workday. This enabled the company to take advantage of Workday's career features while enhancing our custom profiles with user-requested content like certifications
- Expanding the availability section to compensate for an enterprise system's limitations, making it more convenient for staff, project leaders, and managers to check if someone was available or in need of project work
- Incorporating relationship data from our 'Six Degrees of Separation' prototype (which I also supported) to find connections between you and any employee using Microsoft Graph data, project charges, organizational information, and more
My Role
I led the product design for this version of People Profiles as well as all its subsequent additions and updates. I collaborated closely with our front and backend developers, graphic designer, and other cross-functional team members as we implemented new features. I coordinated with stakeholders wanting to incorporate their content as well as product owners whose system changes impacted our application. I also regularly engaged with our employee users, actively collecting feedback and ensuring their issues were addressed while balancing requests with the overall user experience and our business goals.
